Build a Light-Pattern Detector

Two light sensors give us brightness readings. How can a neuron use them to recognise a pattern? Let’s build the detector from its weights, bias and activation, one connection at a time.

Could a Machine Learn Which Signals Matter?

Part 1 of 6

Imagine building a machine that can recognise a simple pattern of light. Sensors can tell us which parts of an image are bright, but that does not tell the machine which combination means the pattern is present. We need a way for some signals to matter more than others, and a way to change their influence when the machine gets an answer wrong.
